Description:
The University of Adelaide is part of the recently announced Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav). We seek to appoint a Senior Research Associate/Research Associate to undertake research at the University of Adelaide node and at the aLIGO sites in Washington State and Louisiana. Their research will focus initially on the continued development and commissioning of aLIGO and the development of adaptive wavefront control techniques for these detectors. The successful candidate will be expected to spend extended periods of time at the LIGO observatories (LHO and/or LLO as required), participating in detector commissioning and operation.
Salary: (Level A) \$60,975 to \$86,820 or (Level B) \$91,393 to \$108,532 per annum commensurate with experience
Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply
Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available for three years, with a possible one year extension
Position Requirements
To be successful you should have:
Level A
1.PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in optical or laser physics, photonics, optics, optical engineering and/or optical sensing
2.A commitment to research excellence
3.Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team in a complex setting
4.Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5.Excellent organisational and time management skills
6.A commitment to travel to the LIGO observatories, LHO and/or LLO, for extended periods of time to participate in Advanced LIGO commissioning and observations
Level B (as well as the above)
1.Demonstrated record of publications in leading scientific journals and conference proceedings
2.Experience with development and/or commissioning of long-baseline gravitational wave interferometers
3.Experience in the co-supervision of PhD students
