The Symmetry Energy group at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL), Michigan State University, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work primarily on the SAMURAI Pion-Reconstruction and Ion-Tracker (SπRIT), a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) to be used within the gap of SAMURAI dipole magnet. The SπRIT collaboration is an international effort to constrain the nuclear symmetry energy around twice the saturation density.
The successful applicant must have a strong background in C++ programming and data analysis with ROOT . Knowledge and experience with GEANT4 is a requisite (GENFIT is a plus). Knowledge of algorithms for particle tracking in a magnetic field would be helpful.
We just finished the first SπRIT TPC experiments in RIKEN, Japan https://groups.nscl.msu.edu/hira/NP1306_SAMURAI15/index.htm. The results of these experiments will have important implications on the properties of neutron stars and the studies of the symmetry energy and exotic nuclei in FRIB (Facility for Rare Isotope Beams). This is an exciting time to join our group. Interested person should contact Prof. Betty Tsang (firstname.lastname@example.org).
