Description:
The physics department of Korea University, in Republic of Korea (South), offers one
post-doctoral position for the GroundBird telescope, currently being assembled at KEK
in Japan. The GroundBird is a telescope project aiming at the detection of B-mode
polarization of the cosmic microwave background down to the tensor to scalar ratio
of 0.01. Korea University has been focusing on the readout firmware and partially
simulation of the interface between the polarization antenna and the MKID sensor.
The observation site is located in Canari Islands of Spain. The telescope is planned
to be moved to the Tenerife Island in early 2018 and start the science observation
afterward. This ground-based telescope, GroundBird is considered as a testbed of the
eventual space based project known as LiteBird, being proposed by Japan.
We are looking for a candidate who has strong interests in the physics of our early
Universe. Candidate is expected to have background in astrophysics or experimental
particle physics. This position expects trips to KEK/Japan and Tenerife Island
in Spain, and the role in the commission, operation, and eventually data analysis
of the cosmic microwave background signal in the Canari Islands (Tenerife) of Spain.
Compensation: We offer a competitive stipend, commensurate with experience and
qualifications. The term is initially 3 years and can be extended for 2 more
years based on the present budget secured.
